Since it’s not on the Web, I thought I’d post it here for those interested:

Each week we profile a new Tribe of Angels member. This week we meet Craig Newmark, Chairman and Customer Service Rep for a very useful classifieds site called craigslist. You may have heard of it.

I could ramble on about why I love craigslist, and why I think Craig’s a national treasure, but instead, some questions for him…

1. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

Customer service for craigslist, nearly fifteen years.

2. What was your first job?

Systems programmer, for IBM Boca Raton.

3. What is your favorite Jewish occasion and why?

No favorite, practice my values every day.

4. What is one of your favorite travel destinations, and what do you like about it?

New York, it’s sense of vitality and energy.

5. If you could have dinner with one living or non-living person, who would it be and why?

Leonard Cohen, he’s my rabbi.

6. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I’m a “libertarian pragmatist”.

7. Where did you complete your formal education?

Case Western Reserve, Cleveland.

8. Who has been an influential teacher, mentor, or model to you, and what did you learn?

Leonard Cohen, who reminded me what my values are.

9. What advice would you offer to entrepreneurs?

Treat people like you want to be treated.

10. What book are you currently reading?

Blood’s a Rover, James Ellroy

14. What business book would you recommend?

Dilbert Principle, Scott Adams

15. What book is among your all-time favorites?

No one in particular, I read too many, they blur together.

16. What movie is among your all-time favorites?

Blade Runner

17. What is a quality you greatly admire in others? Why?

Commitment, and follow through, seems to be the core of honor.
